Burnsville Community Information

Burnsville's student population is served by the schools of the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191, which includes one high school that serves tenth to twelfth grade; three seventh to ninth grade junior high schools; and ten K-6 elementary schools. However, in addition to School District 191, many of Burnsville's students are also served by districts 196 and 194. For higher education, Burnsville residents have the option of attending Dakota County Technical College located just minutes away in Rosemount, Inver Hills Community College, St. Olaf College, Concordia College, the University of Minnesota and its renowned Medical School.

Burnsville, like its neighboring suburban communities, features a vast amount of parkland and open space—1,800 acres and 79 parks to be exact. Maintained and operated by the Burnsville Parks Department, the city's parks and trails serve as a reminder of the area's natural habitat, all of which has been thoughtfully preserved. The city's northern border touches Hopkins Park, Blackdog Lake and the Minnesota River, which is a part of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. Much of the area's water recreational activities—including swimming, jet-skiing, boating and fishing—are usually done at Crystal Lake. More recreational fun can be had at the Burnsville Skate Park, Burnsville Ice Center, and the Burnsville Athletic Club.

One of Burnsville's most desirable qualities is its proximity to the Twin Cities. Ideally situated between Interstate 35 East and West, which travels directly into the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, Burnsville is just minutes from a number of major attractions including the Mall of America, Valleyfair Family Amusement Park, the Minnesota Zoo, and Mystic Lake Casino, the state’s most popular gaming center.
